The White Rock Firefighters’ started a Co-ed Tournament in 2000 and it has grown tremendously over the years. Our goal was to raise money for charity and have fun doing it. Needless to say we have exceeded those goals. As we get ready to set up our 12th Annual Tournament we are anticipating over fifty teams this year. The tournament offers three divisions. This allows everyone to enter the appropriate category depending on each team’s skills and experience. The three levels are Competitive, Recreational 1 and Recreational 2. The Rec. 2 seems to be the most popular every year. This division is perfect for players expecting good competition but not having to play against players who are fresh out of university. Rec. 1 is a category for players who view the score as irrelevant and are just looking forward to a relaxing fun day of volleyball.
This tournament is played on grass which is well-maintained by the Parks Department of City of White Rock. Firefighters will be operating a food stand that will include the usual jumbo dogs and hamburgers and all sorts of drinks. We also set up a licensed beer garden with music. So, please leave your coolers at home. Depending on sponsorship we have a cash prize for the competitive division which seems to keep high caliber players away from Recreational Divisions. We are always looking for more sponsorship to make this tournament bigger and better. If you or someone you know is interested in sponsoring this event, please let us know.
